The Saint John Rapids’ male team exemplified perseverance and grit throughout the season, with Noah Webster, a native of Saint John, leading the way. Webster’s ability to find the back of the net, finishing as the league’s Top Scorer, earned him the well-deserved titles of Offensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All-Star. His 40-goal season was nothing short of extraordinary, but his leadership extended far beyond his offensive prowess.
The core of the male team was formed during the creation of the 2022 Canada Summer Games training group in the summer of 2020, providing a solid foundation for the 2024 roster. Leadership became a key theme within the organization, with "tertiary" leadership roles helping to develop a deep-rooted sense of accountability across the team.
Riley Bissett, an offensive lefty from PEI, had an impressive rookie season, earning the ECJLL Rookie of the Year title and proving himself a vital part of the offense. Drew Mason, another standout on offense, tripled his point production from the 2023 season, becoming a formidable right-handed force.
Nate Williams, a quick and decisive defender with an affinity for contributing in transition, earned a 2nd Team All-Star award for his impactful play throughout the season.
Noah Fletcher, the man between the pipes, demonstrated bravery and skill in every game. His .856 save percentage on nearly 600 shots earned him Goalie of the Year and 1st Team All-Star honors, solidifying his role as the backbone of the team.
Perhaps the most exhilarating moment of the season came during the Founders Cup tournament. Facing off against the highly favored Victoria Shamrocks, the Rapids defied expectations in an unforgettable 13-12 upset victory. Though the team finished 7th overall, that victory was a testament to their unyielding spirit. After falling short in the ECJLL finals, the Rapids have set their sights on redemption in 2025, eager to rise to new heights both in the league and at the next Founders Cup in Calgary.
The Rapids’ female team also showcased their incredible talent and dedication this season. Kiley Brow, who has been a cornerstone of the program, was named Indigenous Player of the Year for the second time. Her season was marked by her leadership on and off the field, finishing with 6 goals and 2 assists while inspiring her teammates every step of the way.
Alongside Brow, Demi Johnston and Kat Garland were recognized for their efforts, earning spots on the 2nd Team All-Stars, while Kiley Brown’s exceptional season earned her a place on the 1st Team All-Stars. Each of these athletes has contributed to a culture of excellence that defines the Rapids.
As we look to 2025, the Saint John Rapids will carry with them the lessons of a season filled with highs and challenges. The team’s journey has shown that with heart, determination, and teamwork, anything is possible. The Rapids are not just playing for today—they are building a future for the sport of lacrosse in New Brunswick.
The Saint John Rapids have written a new chapter in their legacy, and as we look to the horizon, there is no doubt that their best days are yet to come.
